Absolutely; I've never heard this song here, but as soon as it started that scene came to mind. Nate is standing on the sidewalk with  people walking by in slow motion, glancing at him, as he looks up and sees his dead father wave to him from a departing bus.

How do you mean by itself?  How would it be stronger by not being by itself?  I think it is a fine little ditty.

I was able to get all 5 seasons from my public library, it was a very interesting series with a pretty good soundtrack.

This song is off of the Devlins 1997 album Waiting and I loved (and still love) that and their 1993 album Drift. I'm not familiar with their more recent stuff but damn I listened to Drift over and over again when I was a sad teenager... but don't let that deter you. {#Smile}
