Oh yes, the Portishead remix would be fantastic.
I once had a promo pressing of it, acquired stapled to an issue of Melody Maker ... or was it the NME? Anyway, long since lost

That's exactly what keeps it interesting!  Besides, jumping into cold water on a "scorching July day" sure sounds good to me.

Thanks for posting that photo of Strummer & Weller (which has since "vanished").

We always had heard there was a big rivalry and some bad blood between The Clash & The Jam (including the 'Burton Suits' lyric in "White Man in Hammersmith Palais"), but it's nice to see the boys let it go after the smoke cleared.

Longer than that for me - and The Stranglers too.  Since the late 1970's.

You would probably really like his newest "Wake Up The Nation". Weller was with The Jam and then Style Council before his solo work. He's one of my Top 5 favorite artists, period. He's one of the few who have evolved musically without losing their 'edge' and yet more technically proficient and lyrically current. Most interesting is the change of style within an album of songs yet they all seem to fit together nicely but with such different range.

i'm with you.
loved the jam.
loved style council (mostly picadilly circle).
amazing talent.
