This was the first CD I bought for my first CD player. It evokes fond memories for me.

They used this when the TV transmission was bust, which for the BEEB, is a lot.

Stingray wrote:Never liked this album, but have to admit that the ugly album cover might have had a negative impact! Why do I admit to this? Such a stupid reason! Must admit...I have succumbed for this same reason once in a while. I truly think some artists are careless about assigning artwork to represent the music therein. The old days of vinyl and larger album art seemed to lend itself to more attention to the artwork per se. It seems to be in vogue these days to have lazy, careless or sloppy artwork...these days its almost trendy to do something that makes people go..."wuhhhhh?". Ok...soapbox over and done with. |

I'm always amazed that this song comes from an album as recent as '91. It feels like it's been with us forever.
Great album too... From the tongue in cheek brilliance of My Parties to the soaring heights of this. Love 'Straits.

I just had the greatest memory of being on vacation in the Caribbean...dining in a seaside restaurant with the wind gently blowing over perfect azure waves...and being enthralled by On Every Street as it played in the background(the wine certainly helped the scene). So beautiful and brilliant, and so agonizing in its desperation. I believe there are many of us who can empathize. Knopfler doesn't get the credit he deserves.

Amazing song. The best of rock guitar ends it. Takes me many places, many streets, thinking of people I know everywhere. What are they doing? How are they?
