As I recall way back when (correct me if I am wrong), but Del Amitri became the center of a big scandal when it was discovered that the singers and the people pictured on the cover were not the same (to put it politely). I also believe that Del Amitri later admitted to this (having studio musicians sing for them). Does anyone else remember this? You won't find it on Wikipedia (or similar), but I found it rather strange nevertheless that Wikipedia said "|Mick Slaven's| place was taken by David Cummings, whose photograph appeared on the |previous record's| record sleeve." |

Alright!! One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands! And thanks for the tip Cynaera, I'll go get "Hat Full of Rain". I love Del Amitri!

I'll reiterate - this is a really GOOD CD. Del Amitri was a passionate band that believed in what they were doing. Right up until they blew apart. Lots of great music on this collection of songs, so if you can afford it, buy it. And "Hat Full of Rain" is also really listenable. I'd never heard of them until I went to Montréal and heard their music in a record store - bought the CD on the spot, and have loved their music ever since...

To pay us back for the sins of the Decemberists' fake Brit affectation. |

Justin Currie (Del Amitri vocals, guitar & bass) did a great session with Chris Difford (Squeeze) and Boo Hewerdine for the BBC series, Songwriters Circle, a few months back (a kindly soul has posted a rip to YouTube from the show). |

I don't get all the 'country' references....it's more folky to me....it's just a nice song and really hits the nail on the head about a relationship that's gone on past it's natural life....

I tried to submit another Del Amitri song, but the bitrate was too small. They're actually quite good, and metaphors aside, they've produced a lot of valid music. None of which I've been able to upload. I had "Hat Full of Rain" which I bought in Montréal in about 2001, and the CD got broken. It had some incredible music on it - buy it if you can find it.
Meanwhile, I love Del Amitri, and while this isn't their best song, it's still pretty damned good. And I stand by them.
EDITED: Went to the official website and could only access one band-member's touring schedule, so I guess Del Amitri is no more. Damn. Hot-headed Scottish bands. What're y'gonna do?

Oh, kiss my ass, Grammarcop. No, wait - that's an image neither of us wants to experience. I don't champion very many artists, but I will take you to the mat on Del Amitri. And BTW - my mother used to drive with one tiny foot on the gas and the other on the brake. I know she made anyone following her want to rear-end her just to stop the madness, but that was my mother. So - I have a particular affinity for "Driving With the Brakes On." Yeah, what of it? You want a piece of me? Huh? I'll mop the floor with your small intestine. Well, I'll save the large one for a rope-swing. (God, I sound tough, don't I? *g*) And the sequel is "Kiss This Thing Goodbye." |

I had "Twisted" on cassette, and it got listened to until it wouldn't play anymore. I bought the "Hat Full of Rain" CD in Montréal in about 2001 (because "Twisted" lived up to its name), and listened to it constantly. I don't know what happened, but it ended up getting broken! Man, I loved it so much... Del Amitri is an understated, over-skilled band, and if I had "Hat Full of Rain" in my CD library again, I'd prolly listen to it until it didn't play any more. Yeah, I love this band.

This song became bothersome after a while. The overuse of metaphors just makes the character seem dense. And that's all I have to say about that. :)

That reminds me of that episode of Dr. Katz. His son was driving with the emergency brake on. The son said something like "I guess emergency is a subjective term". |

Justin Currie's voice just does wonders for me. This album is fair...the earlier ones are superb. Every track. But then, I was younger, too. Age bias.
