Yeesh. Most of the time, I think covers are fun and interesting.
But NOT THIS TIME. This makes the original song sound STYOOPID. Anything that forces "a kewl sound" sucks rocks.
Please, Bill, never play this tripe again.

The original almost shines through, but not enough to get more than a 2.

Wow I think that's the most '1' ratings I've seen for a song here so far.
A 2 from me.

Yeah, that's something about this genre that always irritates me to no end. If you have to SAY how cool you are in your songs, you obviously aren't.
Also, while I'm ranting, I feel if you're going to cover something, you should ADD to it in some way. I don't see how synth drums and keyboard are doing anything innovative here, and his hip hop stylings don't impress me. I agree with whoever said that if we're going to cross over into hip hop, we should play something more interesting and/or original.
ok. I'm done ranting.

RP plays such horrible hiphop-esque music. i think they're actually turning people away from the genre with this trash. play something good. aceyalone, madlib, or dj shadow would fit right in here.
but no, we're subjected to this...
you, obviously, are out of your mind. |

This worked a lot better than I thought it would.
And for those who never really liked the original, if I remember correctly, Paul Simon said he originally wrote it to explain the concept of rhyme to his son, which I think is kinda neat, and may explain why it sounds a bit different from other songs he wrote at the time.

exactly, the controversy swung my score a few points higher. Not a bad song, but not great either. Probably would have been a lot better on my home speakers, not cheap little headphones. |

Now if Bill starts playing the Paul Simon version, THAT will be something to complain about.
Yeah boy howdy - I'll second that! (pimp) |

I just love this version and I'm an old fart. One thing that I like about RP is that thsy are not afraid to expose listeners to music.
Yeah I know a lot of folks do not like this version, but that slow hip hop reggae beat just gets me bouncing and hopping.
"Covering" a Paul Simon song seems like a really good idea to me - and besides - this is fun! ease up!!! |

Whenever I hear a song like this, I have to remind myself that having a "variety" of music means getting to listen to lots of great music, but it also means having to endure some really bad tunes as well. |
