One of the things that I loge about this song is that it is continually inventive all the way through. No section sounds like another. Great stuff. |

Just my 2 cents for those that only know the band through this song... If you're inclined, go back and listen to a couple of other songs on Moontan (while admiring the original cover art, not the one here) "Candy's Going Bad", "Are You Receiving Me", and the full sublime 9:16 of "Vanilla Queen". Also Side One of their album 'Switch' has "Intro: Plus Minus Absurdio", "Love Is a Rodeo", "The Switch", and the intense "Kill Me (Ce Soir)".

I thought this was pretty cool when I was 14. If it hadn't been played absolutely to death on FM, I might be more nostalgic about it. Pretty good for its day... I'll rate it a 6.

Takes me back to the summer of '74. Good album, too, I used to play it in its entirety...I especially like "Vanilla Queen" and "Candy's Going Bad" on this record.

That oversaturated piece of garage crapola?" Which was my point. Sigh. BTW, buddy, you need to relax. Life's too short, and there's too much good music that neither of us has yet heard. |

According to Wiki, these guys are still touring - and were founded in 1961.
Wow, that beats Richard Thompson's record of endless touring . . .

One of the best songs of the 70s, but Golden Earring has SOOO many great songs. I guess I'll have to upload some more of those too. Hopefully Bill will include them.

Another classic segue... Chris Isaac's Gone Ridin' with a barely perceptible downshift into Golden Earring. Smoooooth....

Classic track. Takes me right back to stealing my dad's car, getting drunk at the local hotel and gunning the Chevy through the black velvet night. To nowhere. And back. To a good ear-bashing.

Aah! The summer of '74, the wife and I (and another couple) having cut all ties, broken all leases, quit all jobs, on the Great North American Road Trip. Driving all night many nights through pretty desolate country, as well as Interstate truck stops, and this (and Midnight at the Oasis) were the soundtrack; seems like they were the only 2 songs on the radio.
One thing I'd love to hear of theirs that reaches even further back is their album-side length cover of Eight Miles High. Is that even available on CD? I've never been able to find it.
