Brilliant pairing by the way with Wilfred's poem by the way Bill...what is sweet and right is often not so clear...

Bravo! The Dixie Chicks are fantastic, talented, interesting people and artists. The album Taking the Long Way, produced by Rick Rubin, is wonderful stuff. I also recommend watching the doc Shut up and Sing, about their travails during the Iraq war. I'm not a huge fan of a lot of country music, but they have my praise.

I agree Bill, jack up their rotation! It's nice to think free speech is still possible in some places :)

LOVE hearing what Bill just said about "and that's reason enough for us to give them a spin from time to time here on RP..."  Man, I really dig what this station is all about!

They changed thier line up a  bit and regrouped as the Court Yard Hounds, I saw them at 2010 Aspen Jazz Festival, superb musicians and vocalists. You can see photo of this show here: http://gonzoshots.com/archives/7243

Court Yard Hounds is an American country music and folk duo founded by sisters Martie Maguire and Emily Robison. They, along with Natalie Maines, make up the Dixie Chicks. The sisters decided to record a side project under a different name. Court Yard Hounds, featuring Robison for the first time as lead vocalist released a debut album for Columbia Records, the same label for which the Dixie Chicks has recorded, on May 4, 2010. The album debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 chart, initially selling 61,000 copies. It has sold approximately 825,000 copies in the United States.

Cool - thanks for the info.

Now that I've heard it, I can make the educated statement that I much prefer the original.

I'm not really sure why the Dixie Chicks are so famous and successful when Patty Griffin is competing in the same market.

Then again, perhaps it's not the same market at all...

It's the way Patty wants it.....she is a world known singer/songwriter with none of the crap that goes with being a superstar in this crazy world.  She has a HUGE worldwide following and yet can roam the streets of Austin (with hubby Mr Plant) and not be harassed.

As far as the country music bashing... the reason I like RP is because it is eclectic and doesn't pigeonhole any one category of music as "bad" or "unworthy".

As far as their politic views go, I could care less. I am a fan of the music... I don't care what their political views are... or Sinead O'Connor's... or Toby Keith's... or Bruce Springsteen's, or anyone else who has exercised their right to free speech.

Go.  Look.  We won't miss you a bit.  This music is an intrinsically American music, w/ Appalachian roots.  And you are a short-sighted, intellectual wannabe.  AMF.

It's ironic that the same groups of people who bashed the DC are the same groups of people who are bashing Obama now.  Well maybe it's not ironic really, it's hypocritical.....
