Does anyone else interpret this song as commentary on the current state of the U.S. and the world as it relates to the U.S. rather than on personal wasting?

this tune just doesn't quite do it for me. I love bad singing, generally speaking, but for some reason I can't get into it with this tune. Also, it's a little too basic and it doesn't really have enough soul to support the weak performance. But not unlistenable

This sounds like it should be on the soundtrack to some cheesy 80s teen movie, like some scene where the parents are gone and the kids are partying it up in the living room and zany shenanigans are going on, inevitably resulting in someone falling into the pool in the backyard ...

Funny! Actually Bob Dylan's vocals are far worse.

i love his thought about enjoying every sandwich, and i try to think about that as often as possible, but i can't enjoy my sandwich while listening to this song.

Sounds like Springsteen is the one dying.

Very raw and urgent. I like it. Just got the album today, and it's a bittersweet work.

I just don't get this. I mean, the song itself was ok, but the vocals are just terrible.

(Looks at the playlists) Why are the last 5 songs I missed always better than the current ones?

Never heard this before. At first I thought it was actually a Keith Richards song with the rough voice and sloppy guitar.

Great song! Bill, thanks for the ongoing updates on Warren Zevon's illness, and for playing his material in the last several months. Prompted by Bill's info, I did a bit of digging and found that Zevon recorded this album after his lung cancer diagnosis, to "writ and record as many songs as possible in the weeks that lie ahead."

Here's a link to a press release on Zevon and his diagnosis, on the Artemis Records web site:

Check out the following page on VH1's web site for info about the Zevon documentary they'll be airing on 8/24/03:

Awright!! Wonderful on first hearing. Springsteen contributes some great guitar work (and background vocals), but it's still Warren's show. Can't wait until next Tuesday's release date.
