It's always a pleasure to hear Stina Nordenstam on radio.I discovered her with "Little star" 10 years ago more or less and now I have all her albums.

Sounds like The Cranes. That's a good thing.

I was SURE those chords at the end were actually the opening to Good Day Sunshine. What a segue! Only it wasn't; they were really just the closing chords to Dynamite. Coincidence? I don't think so!

I'd have to say this is the first time I've heard her - intriguing, but I'd have to hear more to see if the unique approach of this song is echoed elsewhere in her music, or is a lucky hit.
Her voice is definitely on the thin, reedy side, but I can take that if the music and lyrics lend themselves to it. On this song it does - but on her other stuff does it?
I can see where it might get grating if she is one-dimensional.
In other words, is she Bjork (good), or Emiliana Torrini (not bad, but not as good)?

Hrm - looks like Bill liked that sequence quite a bit...same order today:
Nickel Creek - Reasons Why
Neko Case - Deep Red Bells
Stina Nordenstam - Dynamite
Dynamite has a cool feel to it, but Stina's voice eventually starts to grate on me. It makes me want to tell her to open up her mouth and sing out every once in a while.

You know, I kind of like her and her style...but if her voice goes any higher there may be a revolution of every dog in hearing distance and I'll have to replace every glass thing I own. |
