This amazing man did have cancer. However, that is not how he died.he was driving home from Sanfrancisco Airport after a Thanksgiving visit to his girlfriend in Long Island, New York. His car apparently skidded off a rain-slicked S-curve and down a 120-foot cliff. Hedges was thrown from his car and appeared to have died nearly instantly. His body was found a few days afterward. Anyone who reads this should go to wikipedia and look up his albums and buy them or torrent them or something, He truly is a genius.

Not sure if he had been ill but he died in 1997 after his BMW slid off a rain-slick coastal CA road over a 120ft cliff. He was thrown from his car and died "instantly." A tragic end for Mr. Hedges and a sad loss to the music community. Here's the story: http://www.nomadland.com/pressdem.htm |

Absolutely, I saw him play in a small Belfast pub ( The John Hewitt) about 2 years ago, a really enjoyable performance and a fantastic way to spend a late afternoon on a winter Sunday. I believe he was a friend of Michael Hedges. |

I did! Hedges has become an instant fave. His strumming is heavenly. He is labeled as "New Age", but his chords are too vibrant for such. Buy this disc NOW!!!! You definately will not be sorry!

One of the most talented guitar players ever. I saw Michael Hedges play many times in NY. He had a magnetic presence and was a tremendous performer. His life was all too short.
