RIP Hal David, author of many many wonderful lyrics to Bacharach's music. Perhaps they can seem to middle-of-the-road for RP, but they are beautiful gems of music. IMNSHO RP could use a few more of them. |

old?? I must be ancient! Finally passed on that '64 Zenith tube am/fm console I grew up listening to this including early Beatles classics on top 40! I remember visits to Safeway to get tube replacements. It was decades later that I started to appreciate Zep and "hippy" tunes. Not long ago, wife kept swearing it'd be a good coffin. Suspect it's a good thing I passed it on to someone that appreciated good ole tube stereo setups ;-). It took it a few minutes to warm up, but once it did, what wonderful sounds it let loose including '78s! Cheers to the good ole days! |

I'm trying to figure out if that's a cheap shot or merely damning with faint praise. Regardless, IMHO Dusty stands/stood in a class of her own. This is a lovely song, which unfortunately gets too identified with the faux-Bond flick, Casino Royale. And if the dis is on Dusty, then I'd suggest Dusty in Memphis, a classic by any measure . |

That was awesome. :) I grew up with this stuff and thought it was stupid. Now that I'm old enough to really listen I recognize how excellent this is and Ray Charles and Johnny Cash (okay, I liked him when I was a kid).

Hmmmm.... not sure what to make of this in the RP context. As far as Diana (Krall) goes, I like some of her stuff, but some songs she can't quite do. This is one of them. I do like Sergio Mendez & Brazil '66's version, however.
Off topic, though, may I suggest Dean Martin's version of Sway (covered by the Blue Hawaiians). It's freakin' terrific! Who knew?
