2000? Try 1987!

Although Wikipedia lists 1987 as the start date, On the Sunday of Life didn't come out til 1991. That really signifies (no pun intended) the beginning of this band. And this album was all Steven Wilson anyway so if you included the full band, it would be "Up the Downstair" in 93. Still alot earlier than 2000 which was 8 albums later! Over half their discography.

This version of Disappear is with the full band, there is an earlier version that Steven did solo that really has more power and energy, especially on the long refrain at the end. It was available on the European version of Lightbulb Sun, and later on Steven Wilson's MySpace page. Worth a listen if you are a hardcore "Tree" fan like me.

buddy gemtag:   "public whipping"?

Man I would have put you in a public stockade and invited all the farm teams to throw both soft and hard fruit at you.

Tsk, tsk.    In the spirit of Easter, please post images of the flagellation wounds.

Edit: and the SC version is in fact in stereo, and sounds MUCH better than this version.

I uploaded this version and it was sadly turned down. The history behind this song off the 97 track is that Steven did all the instruments. It was released on the European version of Lightbulb Sun but never made it across the pond.

The intensity at the end chorus is so much better than what we are listening to in Recordings. It shows the true angst of Steven as he copes with loss and finality in a lost relationship. I love the 97 version so much more for this intensity.

Is this why it sounds really scratchy and very obviously mono? (never really investigated PT's back catalogue in great depth so don't have much knowledge of provenance of particular tracks)

I think so - the (much shorter) version on Recordings sounds a lot better (and very obviously stereo). However, I find this demo version also quite appealing. Fascinating how some song ideas evolve.

This song has a VERY SIMILAR guitar riff to the Live song T.B.D. from years ago.. he even sounds like the lead singer a bit. Catchy though

Disappear.  PT's jewel - or do I yearn for it because it's only on the Recordings album that is almost unattainable?  OK, it is on the reissued Lightbulb Sun, but only in 5.1 which won't play on my equipment.  How, oh how, do I get my very own Disappear???

Good news, Recordings was re-issued in September. Get thee over to Amazon!
