I want to flash mob my daughter's wedding rehearsal dinner with this song/the beetlejuice dinner scene.  Does that make me a bad mom?

Oh my, what an odd song this is, going right back to my childhood. For some reason, being British, I put this in the same head space as 'The goons', which is entirely wrong of course.

My first and favorite memory of the Banana Boat Song is Harry singing it on the Flip Wilson Show.

I used to watch that show with my Dad, good times...

My parents loved Harry Belafonte and played this song frequently. Fond memories of me and my brother dancing around with my Dad's bongos and castanets!

If you ever feel like making a banana theme set including this song, you should also include this one: Tally Hall - Banana Man.  :)

Great! Thank you for playing this one. Takes me somewhere, not sure just where, but back in time.

We used to sing this song in elementary school music class - our music teacher loved calypso music, but apparently, Tim Burton's film was the first-ever exposure to this tune for a lot of folks.

I think my first exposure to this tune was the Muppet Show.

Surprising to hear, but that's also what I love about RP. Variety across generations. Even if, like others, all I can think of is Beetlejuice.

Cool! Following the discussion there, the creator of the original said he'd post a cleaner version of it. He hasn't found the original negs yet but in the meantime, here's a clip made from a VHS of the original.
