This cover makes me appreciate the original even more, so it's not all bad.

Yea, I have had if forever. Can't tell you how many computers/mp3 players it has been on. Most it pretty good only a couple of duds. I think Jimi would approve. |

Until I heard this song, I thought covers of Hendrix songs were sacrilege. The Cure did it their way, and I can really appreciate that.

I'm a diehard Hendrix fan from the late 60s and also a huge Cure fan. Amazing that they can take such an iconic song and make it their own.

Great version, never heard it before. Loved early Cure, and never really gave the more recent stuff a try. Maybe I need to go check some out after all!

I confess - I've never heard this but, well, like it quite a bit.
Always interested in other artists' take on another's work.

What are you going to do? I say take it apart and put it back together - almost (but not really) a different song. It's got the same soul, the same spell, but technically (musically) new. Job well-done. I know it's not the Cure's usual but I always thought they were kind of stuck in a schtick. It's a wonderful cover rendition. |

Bill - Excellent programming my friend.
Jimi Hendrix - Fire followed by The Cure - Purple Haze
I'm at work and I did a little LOL (but not too loud) when Purple Haze came on.
A co-worker heard me laugh and popped his head in the door and asked what the joke / funny was?
I clicked the Playlist button and swiveled the monitor so he could see the screen.
He (musically clueless - listener of AM talk - maybe some pop FM once in a while) looked at the screen and said, "I don't get it."
LOL

the Cure are still one of my all time fave bands, and I was around when Jimi Hendrix was releasing album and still own them! I bought this Stone Free CD of covers when it first came out and always thought Robert at company did a bang up job, one of the best covers on the album.

This is fun. I expected the 'double hump' distribution on the ratings, though. I give it a solid seven. When I first heard it, I wondered if it was SUPERHEAVY.

I like this cover. Jimi's guitar was everything on this one and the Cure kind of shrugged it off as an afterthought and played it their way. The entire tribute album is worth a listen in my view. Paul Rodgers & Slash have a nice number. No disrespect to the originals. Nothing like them before or since, but great stuff should be covered in my opinion.

The groove is definitely there, and it's a different take instead of just a mimic,
But Robert Smith's vocals just ruin it for me.
