There's always some kind of "revolution" or "evolution" in popular music; one generally has to be young enough to notice it, because it's often the case that once people get older, they tend to predominantly appreciate music from their own youth. For some reason this time the song was really quiet compared to the songs before and after (both quiet songs themselves: Heartbeats by Jose Gonzalez, and Knock Loud by Neko Case). I don't recall that being the case before.
