the Beatles put out new albums all the time. even Jeff Buckley puts out new albums, queen, Eliott Smith has some new ones in recent years, and I'm sure will have a new one out soon enough.

Strange. I think Misery would be a more appropriate title.

You don' even have to google him - just click the Wikipedia entry thoughtfully provided by Bill with all RP track entries. Fab, man.

huh-I just had a thought but it was a dud. Since My Old School was on before this I was thinking of Elliott Randall who played with Steely Dan.

There are quite a few of them on here who will never be 64.

Joplin, Hendix, Cobain, Morrison (and others) all died at 27. One turns 10,000 days old at 27 and 138 days, give or take a day for leap years. I was curious to see if they all died on their 10,000th day. Close, but no.

Cover? Of what? By whom? As far as I know, this is/was/will forever be his song.

And a damn great one at that.

One of the best songs of all time. The ending, with the 'what i used to be...' part is one of the most powerful short-segments in music, for me.

An Elliott Smith song should never receive fewer than 2 comments per play. ;)

I give many of his songs a 10, but this is among his very best. This album was his most heavily produced. Some really liked it, some like the rawer stuff better. This song though, is Elliott at his most lush. Arching and wistful at the same time. I actually don't consider this a sad song at all. Fantastic.

I wish I had discovered him sooner, i think it was this year, or late last year that he died.

I was a fan of Elliott since "Good Will Hunting," so I'm lucky to have known him while he was alive, although I'm certainly feeling some guilt about not being able to help him, even though I didn't even KNOW him.

However, I felt the exact same as you when I discovered Jeff Buckley, years after he'd died. I believed if I'd bought his albums, he might not have been so self-destructive and he'd still be around when I discovered him. Then Elliott killed himself, and I saw my misconceptions for what they were. I mean, hell, I bought EVERY RECORD. Now I'm in a place where I say, "Fuck, they're rock stars, I don't know them, they don't know me, I have enough friends dying, who needs that shit."
