The music is simple, the poetry ordinary. Taken in the context of the Irish Troubles and the reason for the song, it is very powerful and evokes a feeling of despair.

There are a great many jobs worse than that of a studio musician, unless one enjoys waiting tables or being an "admin assistant". Interesting song for Sinead to cover - quite likable. |

Despite the reason why this song was sung by Sinead O'Connor, the song is imo an unnessesary one to be played without its context...

Lyrics Chiquitita, tell me whats wrong Youre enchained by your own sorrow In your eyes there is no hope for tomorrow How I hate to see you like this There is no way you can deny it I can see that youre oh so sad, so quiet
Chiquitita, tell me the truth Im a shoulder you can cry on Your best friend, Im the one you must rely on You were always sure of yourself Now I see youve broken a feather I hope we can patch it up together
Chiquitita, you and I know How the heartaches come and they go and the scars theyre leaving Youll be dancing once again and the pain will end You will have no time for grieving Chiquitita, you and I cry But the sun is still in the sky and shining above you Let me hear you sing once more like you did before Sing a new song, chiquitita Try once more like you did before Sing a new song, chiquitita
So the walls came tumbling down And your loves a blown out candle All is gone and it seems too hard to handle Chiquitita, tell me the truth There is no way you can deny it I see that youre oh so sad, so quiet
Chiquitita, you and I know How the heartaches come and they go and the scars theyre leaving Youll be dancing once again and the pain will end You will have no time for grieving Chiquitita, you and I cry But the sun is still in the sky and shining above you Let me hear you sing once more like you did before Sing a new song, chiquitita Try once more like you did before Sing a new song, chiquitita Try once more like you did before Sing a new song, chiquitita

Interesting cover. Like so many (well, so many around my age, and perhaps there was a geographical bias), I grew up with lots of Abba around me, but I'm not much of a fan. I'm not (yet) much of a Sinead fan either, but this cover is helping to convert me (to Sinead).

i do NOT like the original song, although i must admit there ARE good songs from ABBA, despite the overwhelming hype.
but sinead really treated chiquitita the right way, giving the song a whole new meaning. really good!

Can't see what is the added value of this cover comparing to the original. No new interpretation, no new sound, it's just Sinead O'connor singing Chiquitita.

She does a great job with this song, and I am not a huge fan of the original. (But I did enjoy Mamma Mia!)
Second, does anyone else notice the resemblance to "Seven Spanish Lovers"? That's the song I thought was playing when this began. Never noticed that before.
