Just the effort it takes for an artist to present an interpretation of an idea, song, or melody, that alone should give them a "Ho Hum". But lo, I am the proud owner of a Shaggs album.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxPsXPCR5MU Oh wait, I take that back. I think I gave the Queen song a 1. Heavens.... |

Saw Sonny last week, guitarist sans pareille, not overly mannered but pushing the techniques to the limit. We were also 10 feet away from his fingers - amazing indeed.

Sonny Landreth is the best dang slide guitarist ever! I've been a fan since 90s and made the highest bid in a charity auction to get a gorgeous sunburst, bird's eye maple, electric-acoustic guitar he'd signed (Cities '97, 1995 MN State Fair). Then in 2010 went to the Baton Rouge Blues Fest, a small neighborly venue with maybe 100 people sitting on a hillside in the sun, where I watched him play this song from 10' away - just amazing. I then bought his latest CD, he signed it as I told him about the guitar I'd picked up 14 years previous, he then reached out to shake my hand. He's a genuine genius guitarist, for sure!!! http://www.sonnylandreth.com/ |

I'm going with a 9 for the bass player, the song, and Sonny's wonderfully original slide guitar style. YES!

I don't see why the detractors even listen to music. One doesn't have to like the genre to appreciate it. Hey, I may not like Hank Williams or Johnny Cash, but I sure as hell wouldn't be giving them a 1. Perhaps a couple quarters of Art Appreciation or a couple of years of guitar lessons would/could extract some of their respect for a guy as gifted a Landerth.. I knew folks back in the day who said the Beatles weren't talented and would be no more than a passing fancy, ... and they too were flat ass WRONG ! Preaching to the choir, That_SOB. Try to think of it like this: If we didn't have those "one" votes, we'd really have no way to gauge whether the rating system even worked. Personally, I welcome the "1" votes, especially if someone who voted that way posted a comment to accompany it. I check their profiles to see what they think merits a 10. It's actually quite fun, and yet another way to be interactive with the other RPeeps. Then again, sometimes I'll give a song a "1" because I'm just having a really crappy day. |

I really wish Radio P would add Joe Bonamassa to their playlist!!!
RP has done - I've heard two Joe Bonamassa tracks recently on RP, and they're both the rockin' dog's bollox. Not that Sonny Landreth is any slouch as a blues rock guitarist, and the more I hear from him on RP the more likely it is I'll be reaching for the plastic to add yet another CD to my burgeoning collection. 8 from the Nottingham jury. |

Yes, and that would be the DVD "A Night In London". And for example the song "Blue Tarp Blues" from Sonny's latest album (From The Reach) features Mark Knopfler. Sonny also, i believe, used to be the guitarist for John Hiatt's band. John Hiatt also occasionally plays along on Sonny's records... |
