This is my first post. I am a RP fan, but of course there are many songs played I don't care for. But Jack Johnson is in a different category. I like rice cakes. They might be airy, but I like the flavor. Jack Johnson is more like a Michael Bolton flavored prairie cake without all the hair. I'll drive over the cliff with the other poster out there. Clawing at my inner eardrums.
i considered turning off my speakers for that song ... there is a part of my brain that understands how people like his music - whereas i cannot fathom why people like soft jazz - but still, i just cannot stand to listen to him and am disappointed when i find out that someone i like actually enjoys his music ... |

Even though his songs are very much alike... this is exactly the kind of uncomplicated music I need to hear right now... it's good when you are studying all day long and your brain just can't handle anything else... thx! |

Though overplayed on FM (at least here where I live), I found myself tiptoeing.
So I must like this song too. |

I love "brushfire Fairy Tales", I was excited to hear the follow up. Very disappointing. I like it. It's just more of the same.

Jack Johnson's lyrics are very personal, and his playing feels that way, too. It's amazing that in this American Idol world, someone can make it with music that seems to matter to no one more than to the performer. I like it and Jack likes it. Everyone else can piss off!
testy! Wow, the altitude must be affecting your clear thinking, but it has enhanced your appreciation and preference for pre-school music, rock on mtn goat! |

I never liked him. I think the instruments in his music are fine -- it's his voice I find irritating.

It's the hipster hive-mind mentality around here. Much music snobbery abounds.
Yes, I like that term. |

I, for one, like him. He's easy on the ears and nice to have going on in the background. He's certainly not a groundbreaker, but a nice addition to my collection. I just picked up the soundtrack to Curious George, which is Jack Johnson plus a few other artists like G. Love and Matt Costa featured on a couple of songs.

By playing only the songs only I like, and certainly nothing that was ever in a Top40 rotation. Because if other people like it, it's just so plebeian! |

Because even a "poor man's Cat Stevens" is better than most of the rubbish released these days. He may not be that brilliant, but he does have a light, crafty and listenable songwriting style like Cat Stevens once had. |
