I believe they have officially disbanded for now. Caught them in concert 09-07 with special guest Fiona Apple. What a magical evening.

They played their last concert in Lexington during the RP meetup a couple of weeks ago, and a bunch of us went to the show.

It was the first time I had seen them live. They were amazing.

I hope they get back together some day.

If you like this do yourself a favor. Check out the band The Greencards. Nickel Creek is good but the Cards are better!!!

I agree completely. Dude's voice is a bit too shrill and punkish for the tasty acoustic goodness they create.

excellent musicians. Too busy listening to music to really listen to lyrics. Deserves better than 6.8!

Yeah, they're great live. The covers they do, especially (don't get me wrong--I really like their original material). I saw them do a great version of "Subterranean Homesick Blues" once and another time they meddleyed a bunch of brief little fragments, including a killer mandolin-led "Where It's At" (sans turntables).

Saw them cover "The Weight" and "Short People." And Chris Thile do a Bach piece written for violin on his mandolin.

Man, I love Nickel Creek. And I love Radio Paradise.

Seriously, I think Bill has access to my own iPod and plays random selections. That's four songs in a row from some of my favorite people.

Thanks for being so damn cool.

I was thinking Song for the Dumped by Ben Folds Five minus a piano.

And then Old Apartment by Bare Naked Ladies without all the happiness of loss and big hair sound.

or I loved you, So What by Ani Difranco, not the cd version, but rather the very raw uncut idiot people talking over the live show. They claim to love her so much, why don't they just shut up and let her play?

But this song... it just slides across almost like it could be about anything...such even tones hide the anger that comes out just around "someone your height so you could see eye to eye" making a brief yes, you hurt me and i am mad and sad moment before hiding in the playful skirts of cute lyrics. Fun.

Whenever this comes on I always think "This sounds great. I wonder who it is?" and then when the vocals start I'm always shocked that it's Nickel Creek. It's so unexpected and different from their "Nickel Creek" CD. They stuck their necks out with "This Side" and tried something outside their comfort zone. Unfortunately that one fell flat and didn't work for me at all, but this one made it across the gap. I love it when a band takes a chance and comes up with something fresh like this, and I think they've done well with this one. It probably disappoints fans that can't hear outside the bluegrass box, but I hope they keep going in this direction.

They almost lost me at the lyric
"I hope you meet someone your height
so you can see eye to eye"
But it was saved with
"...with someone as small as you"
As someone who likes to harmonize along with tunes, Nickel Creek always pleases.

RP turned me on to this band. Just bought the CD. It is very, very good. Highly recommend this album. This group does a great job of combining rock n'roll with bluegrass. Kind of like the Dead did 35 years ago. Oops! Age is showing through again.

I know I like this group. Thanks for the change from Ray LaMontagne. Your eclecticism is what keeps so many of us coming back! The lyrics are both intelligent and intelligible, and there seems to be a melody. Wow, now they have even added in some *violin*--my favorite instrument--and well done, too! Yay!

This is nice.

But I'll always associate Nickel Creek with the Napster of yore. They were a "Napster Discovery" for me.
