In my high school art class(where we got to listen to the radio!!) and Sultans of Swing came on and nearly everyone stopped and looked at each other like- wow! NOthing like it ever before. Totally original and like-able. Dire Straits was the buzz. I really like early Dire Straits, but not sure I'd call it "nothing like anything before". JJ Cale + Little Feat x Ry Cooder x Bob Dylan + Bruce = Sultans of Swing, surely? |

seems like an unrelated point since neither artist can be honestly considered a '70's artist' ... I would have to agree that a fan of Dylan's performances should be much more tolerent of 'bad' voices |

Cynaera wrote:Hypocrite. You've given Bob Dylan solid "9" marks, and he can't sing, either, and Knopfler plays circles around him on the guitar. Still, I agree, to a point - Knopfler has a rather one-dimensional voice, but I think it's sexy - as opposed to Dylan's gravelly, off-key vocals which more often than not miss the mark. And Knopfler has written a soundtrack or two (check out "Local Hero" - there are some absolutely ethereal instrumentals on that CD, and the actual movie is a delight, too.) But let's not get into a pissing contest. Singing is not the only thing that makes a song good, right? Looking at your list of favorites I see your stuck in the 70s. Hard to argue with a mind that's not open to new ideas. |
