Yes, he's good at that. I gave it an 8, but might have to change it to more. I was so very touched by how it made me feel.

I gave this a 10...  not because it's a groundbreaking song that sets new standards for Ray's followers, or because it has changed my life in some way. 

I'm giving this a 10 because of the way this song makes me feel.

This is a rare song that makes captures an emotion, that first spark of hope and love when you realize that your life is completely bound to someone else's in only the best ways.  It captures the joy, struggles, pain, and fulfillment that comes with finding the one person that makes it all worthwhile.

A little insight into the tune, the odd acknowledgement to the crowd doesn't take much effort. Some of the other songwriters/singers I have seen were great at this, people like Jackson Browne, Bruce Cockburn, Lyle Lovett or Ian Andersen. Johnny Cash was an audience charmer and it was part of his stage show and big personality. Hey even Mick gives the audience a little. So I can understand Matt finding this part of Ray's show to be unwhelming. 
 

I'm hearing Dan Fogelberg with a soulful edge. Pleasant but not especially innovative chord changes. Nice overall, for at least 10 more listens.

This guy must have the best publicist south of Katy Perry. His music is everywhere, on tv shows, commercials, playing every time I drive in the car listening to xrt...he gets around. (Personally I am not that impressed.)
