Nuts about this song. Great ballad of sex and violence.

I'm not sure that commenting at this juncture is even worth the effort...but, Sam Beam (Iron & Wine) makes some of the most lyrically challenging music around these days. My criticism of his early output boiled down to "get a proper band that can do the music justice." He did with Calexico, IMHO, a band that could make almost anyone sound very, very good. In this instance the (rather short) album is sublime. I think Beam needed a couple of very sympathetic guys like Burns and Convertino at this juncture in his career, and they made him soar. |

The vocals at times remind me of Dan Fogelberg around 1977.

I don't care, say what you will - this song just makes me happy. Reminds me of Vic Chesnutt's Until the Led, another great song. I guess the horns got me.

Daniel_Pittenger wrote:I like this. Anyone know the lyrics? Google has failed me once more. Louise only got from me innocent poetry
Although she played to not listen
But still I can hear myself speak as if no one else
Ever could offer the same
Some say she knowingly tasts like a recipe
Although so foolish and willing
I said Babe I can picture you bend as if wanting to
Bow as the curtain goes down
Coddle some men, theyll remember you bitterly
F**k em, theyll come back for more
I asked my Louise would she leave and so cripple me
Then came a knock at the door
I came for my woman, he came with a razor blade
Bound like us all for the ocean
I hope that shes happy Im blamed for the death of
A man who would take her from me
Some they saw in me innocent poetry
Some, some say theyll never be certain
But still its been written, a history of lovers
Given and taken in ink
Coddle some men, theyll remember you fittingly
Cut em, theyll come back for more
I asked my Louise would she leave and so cripple me
Then came the knock at the door
Louise came to rescue me, missing the irony
Blood made her heart change its beating
I hope that shes happy Im blamed for the death of
The man she found better than me |
