I remember having heated arguments about who were the best guitar players: Hendrix, EC, Alman, Santana, Walsh, Page, etc, etc, etc.

Crazy stuff.

And who we got today? Jack White?

RIP R n R.

Have another listen to Jack White - as an artist this is a thoughtful, creative individual. Maybe not from your pool of credibility, but there should be no question about his participation in the rock and roll circus. Grace Slick said - "...they all bring something to the party. It's the business of the kids to stir up shit - that's the essence of Rock and Roll'. Have a listen to "Blunderbuss"; the full product. You'll hear homage to a lot of your heroes, and their influences. It's rock and roll. The real deal.

Saw the James Gang play at Winter Pop in Toronto in 1970. Winter as in Johnny Winter.  Along with Sha Na Na, Chiliwack, Steel River, and Rare Earth.

It was just packed in the Maple Leaf Gardens which I used to call Marvin Gardens.  The acoustics were crappy.  There were a number of arrests.  I remember this one young man who looked very high (speed?) flipping police around as he tried to resist arrest.

Memories of a 14-year old.

I'll be willing to bet that Lenny Kravitz was very influenced by this band / song. It sounds very much like his sound...

Today, we have Joe Bonamassa, Derek Trucks, and a few other standouts, so I wouldn't say rock and roll is dead by any means.

Fred, I'm going to go ahead and give you a Limey's pass for this one. Joe Walsh is beloved by Americans in the way that Cliff Richard is beloved by Brits. We promise not to make fun of you guys if you promise not to make fun of us.

Did they sue Kenny Loggins for stealing the riff for Footloose?

Should be a bit more Joe on RP one of my favourite guitarists maybe not that technical but he always manages to get a sound i like. As said below maybe Meadows or Turn To Stone.

Yup, when this came out, way ahead of its time for sure, we all KNEW this was something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT, and we dug it, on a primal level, even as kids...and through the teens, the crazy stuff we got ourselves into and out of, and onward, well, this has always been one of the constant ones in any collection to make it into play on whatever was handy, and so it hooks all through all and back through again...and now, here, on my MacBookPro, Joe and The Gang have got things Rocking! just like always and everywhere, and DANG, THIS FUNK #49 STILL FEELS MIGHTY GOOD!

It's a good song, but the local radio station back home played it nearly as much as it did new music, so I've heard it WAY too many times.

If I could go another 10 years without hearing it, I might be able to enjoy it again.

I'm still going to rank it pretty well, because I can't deny that it's a good song, I just don't want to hear it for a while.

When the fully multi-media iPad dictionary app comes out, I vote for this song to play when you touch "Rock &Roll".  I suspect the voting won't be unanimous, though.
