I am curiously caught between the catchiness, and my ears wanting to bleed, ever so slightly. Hmm.

A few good sounds from this band, but it's hard to accept most of their sound when the lead singer's voice is not very good.... |

They both came into existence out of other bands about the same time, one in England the other in the U.S. Contrary to sirdroseph's opinion I think that they're both great bands. I find that Kula Shaker is more bombastic and much more psychedelic sounding with Spoon being more raw and kind of rustic. |

I am enjoying this. Nothing else to say, but yeah...I'm enjoying this. So deep! Probably the only time I ever Wikipedia'd the word SPOON...and actually didn't get the band, but a full blown wiki article about what else?....a spoon! Yeah baby! |

Heh, looked at the playlist wrong and went crazy trying to prove that the lead singer of Spoon was also lead singer of Jump Little Children, cuz I knew this had to be Britt Daniel. Figured he was just doing the Ben Gibbard thing.

They've got their own unique sweet n sour sound. An original for sure. Nirvana was another band that comes to mind with similar qualities.

Edit - It just hit me that Britt Daniel sounds a bit like Ric Ocasik from The Cars, but of course Spoon sounds nothing like The Cars.
He sounds like Ian Hunter to me... |

I've always heard some Pixies influence in their music, but maybe it's just the odd time signatures, and a little hint of menace underneath even the sweetest harmonies. Whatever it is, I love it. |

My son has loved them since he was two (now six) and his favorite song is "My Mathematical Mind" from this album. Lots of distortion, and yet he's completely drawn to it. I saw them at the Austin City Limits Festival in 2004 and have been passionate about them ever since. |
