I saw Joan live doing a few Dead tunes.   Was absolutely amazing...  nothing like this overproduced stuff, although I give it a high rating just because it's Joan <3

Wish I could have seen this live

She does OK with this gem.  Not nearly as good as the original.  The original is from what I consider one of the Dead's two best albums.

A soulful rendition of one of Jerry's "anthems".....if any woman is gonna sing it, I think he'd be happy to sit back and listen to Joan.

Good song, and I'm happy that other artists realize the importance of the songs the GD wrote and yes, I inc. Robert Hunter in that. But love this song. Always think of this as Jerry's farewell song. He's still rockin my soul.

Under rated: bumping up for one of Jerry and The Boys of Summer's best. Always brings tears to my eyes...

Agree on all counts.  I think she is smirking at us?

I forget just how good a vocalist Joan Osborne is.  Great cover of a classic.

fare you well, my honey
fare you well, my only true one
all the birds that were singing
are flown except you alone

going to leave this brokedown palace
on my hands and my knees
i will roll, roll, roll
make myself a bed by the waterside
in my time, in my time
i will roll, roll, roll

in a bed, in a bed
by the waterside i will lay my head
listen to the river sing sweet songs
to rock my soul

river gonna take me
sing me sweet and sleepy
sing me sweet and sleepy all the way back home
it's a far gone lullaby i sang many years ago
mamma mamma many worlds are come
since i first left home

going home, going home
by the waterside i will rest my bones
listen to the river sing sweet songs
to rock my soul

going to plant a weeping willow
on the banks clean edge
it will grow grow grow
sing a lullaby beside the water
lovers come and go
the river roll, roll, roll

fare you well, fare you well,
i love you more than words can tell
listen to the river sing sweet songs
to rock my soul

What a singer this girl is. I'd heard her doing a few songs on R.P. I caught her on TV on The Transatlantic Sessions (BBC Scotland), what a wonderfull singer. I'll be buying, even if it's just the aforementioned Sessions.(3 CDs apparently)For anyone interested, I haven't seen all of the programs, missed most to be honest, but I've seen Joanie, Eddie Reeder, Jerry Douglas, Russ Barenberg,Emmylou,Ally Bain, and many more. ......... Check it out.

Joan was outstanding when she toured with the Dead a few years ago. Too bad the studio version lost some of the beauty.
