The sound of the guitar is just amazing - one of the purest tones I've ever heard.

I remember seeing Taj front row live at Vancouver's Fabulous Commodore. He introduced this song by saying, "Here's one that all the ladies love."
He's right!

Love this guy! Have seen him many times back in the day when the Mariposa Folk Festival was held on Toronto Island. Such joy and charm emanates from him. I remember one special summer afternoon he was scheduled to play at one of the waterside stages on Centre Island when the heavens broke loose. We were all standing in pools, huddling under every available umbrella, wondering if the rain would ever let up or if the show would even go on. The stage was covered but for safety's sake the power was cut. Taj stepped out, greeted us all with warmth and enthusiasm and said 'let's get this show on the road!' And so he did an acoustic set, without any amplification, as the rain came pouring down. We had nowhere else to go and there was no better place to be! Honestly. he had all of our soppy, wet asses dancing in the rain!!! Grace under pressure? Pressure? What pressure?

You mean...Taj Mahal is not his real name?! Taj gives great live shows agreed, and I really like how he shows his dues to the ordinary blues elders living in obscurity, amazing talents like Etta Baker, Cootie Stark, Cool John Ferguson and Beverly “Guitar” Watkins. Taj helps to promote and support them through his tireless work with the charitable "Music Maker Relief Foundation" http://www.musicmaker.org/reviews_post/etta-baker-with-taj-mahal/And if you want to hear some real raw blues, download MP3s legally and for free from here: http://www.musicmaker.org/music/ thatslongformud wrote:and to think, my mom once dated this guy back when he was still Henry Fredericks. I could have been Taj Mahal Jr!

I love Taj Mahal's music. He just makes me smile, because he takes such joy in his craft, and it's reflected in the tone of his playing and singing. (And why don't we have a "reggae banana" icon?) |

Saw him at the paramount in seattle with the Pointer Sisters as his back up. Awesome show. If memory serves me correctly they were the opening act for the Mahavishnu Orchestra. Wow. |
