Carole King by aprilbabyMichele Miles Gardiner http://www.flickr.com/photos/aprilbaby/I've adored her since my childhood in the '70s. After school, I'd come home to dance and sing in my living room all alone," I feel the earth move...under my feet..." So in 1986, when she came to the studio my then boyfriend (now husband) ran, to cut a demo, I was speechless. Seriously, I couldn't speak. Back then, my husband invited me to his recording sessions. I would sit on the couch reading to keep myself busy. Occasionally, I was even asked to do background vocals. Okay, once. But this day, when Carole came, I said not one word. I painted with my water colors and just listened, too afraid to say something stupid - like I usually do. But being the friendly person she is, she came down and sat on the couch next to me, "Wow, I love your shoes!" she said, holding up the shoe I had taken off. I was mortified. Back then, I was so broke I wore my shoes down to the nails in the heels. Anyway, I relaxed enough to ask if I could take this photo in front of the studio with my Pentax. She's holding my husband's bass. I love Carole. All rights reserved . |
