I dig this in an "adult kid's song" kind of way. It has a light air to it. Very nice musically.

Saw him in concert in Raleigh recently - really great.
The most memorable part was when some bombastic blowhard in the audience was blabbering away at nearly the volume of the concert and Jakob stopped and pretty much asked him to shut up - as sarcasticly as possible. The guy did, for 15 seconds maybe then back to his "blah blah blah". I felt bad for the band, but Jakob showed a side I wouldn't have known about.

When his dad sang adolescent lyrics it was cool, but when Jakob does it it's REALLY lame. I don't know why...

well, I think the tune is kinda catchy. Saw his dad play once, wish I didn't pay for the ticket. Bad, bad voice. |

That Bob Dylan's son would sound so much like Springstein has always weirded me out. |

Jakob's total rating: 1
(Yes, Jakob's just as tolerable as his dad.)

okay, i know about the taboo against naming Jakob-with-a-K and Bob in the same sentence. but who can honestly hear the phrase "something ____ this way comes" and not think of either Macbeth or Bradbury (or both), works most of us read before we graduated high school? how the child of the poet of our times can be apparently oblivious to this meme is beyond me.

There are a number of interpretations about The Magic Roundabout. One theory is that the characters represented French politicians of the time (Dougal being De Gaulle for instance, although he was named Pollux in the French version). Another is that each character was addicted to a different type of psychotropic drug, mainly because of the very laid-back rabbit, Dylan, named after Bob Dylan, but also because the whole show had a psychedelic look to it, and many of the characters chewed on flowers and sugar cubes. However, Eric Thompson's widow, Phyllida Law, denied any reference to drugs was intended.
And more on the Drug Reference theory
Despite the denial of there being any drug references in The Magic Roundabout , the characters all displayed behaviours which may have been drug-related;
Dougal
Hippyish long hair, has "dreams" after eating sugar cubes. (LSD)
Brian
Red nose, flighty attention span, aggressive personality, delusions of grandeur. Snails leave white lines behind them. (Cocaine or Amphetamines)
Ermintrude
Finds everything funny, constantly hungry - and cows eat grass. (Cannabis)
Zebedee
Flushed red, constantly twitching, hyperactive, looks like a pill. (Uppers, Poppers or Amyl nitrite)
Dylan
Dopey, unfocused; in Dougal and the Blue Cat he utters the line "Hey man, I'm just watching these crazy mushrooms grow". (Possibly Magic Mushrooms)
Ahh, the phantoms of my youth...

Agreed. First it seemed a little tentative, but then the lyrics began to kick in, and I started to hear it in my thoughts. Still too soon to rate, though. |
