This is a great album. She is a much better song writer than she gives herself credit for.

Interesting, I've always liked this song but had never noticed until now that the lyrics are vampiric. Maybe it just popped out at me today because I watched a True Blood marathon last night.... And now logging in to post this I see 4merdj has a photo of "Jessica" posted below.... ok, duh! |

Her voice and tone reminds me tons of Patricia Barber, jazz pianist and singer, especially on the second´s amazing track "If I were Blue" form her album Verse I think. I enjoy what I have heard from Yamagata here on paradise.

Thank you.
That is what i often said: lot of people here, their language is not english! Would be nice, more users would respect that! |

I hear many of the same instrumental elements that Tom Waits uses. Love that Marimba!

I hear shades of Fiona Apple and Beth Orton in Rachael's voice. Good stuff!

This is the first time I've heard of Yacht-Rock, but perhaps we're guilty. We have a different definition, though: My "mate" and I frequently anchor our Katrina-salvaged yacht in a small cut off the Tchefuncte River, near Madisonville, which is on the northshore of New Orleans. We listen (loudly) to RP, to XM Chill and what used to be XM Cafe and is now "Spectrum." It's an eclectic mix of Indy, Reggae, dance hip-hop, up-beat New Age and current non-pop rock. We have a decent sound system on the boat and others moored nearby - including the "Twenty-Somethings" - have told us they really enjoy what we 're listening to. We've never heard the Doobie Brothers on these outings, although the Doobies have done some nice stuff about our area. Nevertheless, we "yacht-rockers" have moved on. |

I look forward to hearing it again.

I bought this album and was really disappointed because all the songs are slow and depressing. I even bought tix to her concert and now I'm second guessing that decision. I do want to like her.....
Edit: skipped her concert because she was going on stage at 11pm and was going to be a 1 hour drive. I love her voice. Disc 2 of this album has 6 songs, all of which are more upbeat. I just can't listen to an entire disc of downers. Maybe when I was 16 years old LOL
