If I may... When I was given this record at the age of 8, it was profound in its diversion from the pop of the time. The whole album was a portrait in words. Poetry of nuance. This song stands out mostly for its layering of vocals and efx, along with its social & period implications. Its place in the album order made sense. I played it over and over just to get that spooky vibe when the female choir chimes in. Sounded heavenly and ominous simultaneously. Nowadays, we've all heard the sound of a record needle falling and the scratches that follow. For me, this was the record where I first heard that sound, along with the interminable wait for the song to start. It's forever imprinted on me. |

I always thought that Simon on this album cover, looks like a character in "One Flew Over the Cucko's Nest"

I'll have to check it out on video and get back to you. One of the mo st hysterical things I've ever seen was the Ren and Stimpy cartoon with the golden hairball. |

It probably sounded fine at the bottom of the well where S&G were.
Up top where the mic was, not so much.
Don't remember this one at all on the LP. Or is it a "bonus track" that someone found on an old tape?

Love, love, love this song. It may be somewhat of-its-time, but the arrangement is so creative, and the whimsical yet poignent ending is very compelling.

Wow. I hit the LRC jackpot here! I found quite a few Simon and Garfunkel songs that weren't on the Main Channel that should be there. Another Insta- Add! |
