Being not familiar with Jack's music or the White Stripes, when I first heard this song today, my first reaction was that is was a song I had heard somewhere before, and I thought it was an old Grateful Dead tune I had heard years ago. Surprise. But it's good stuff. Don't understand why some people that comment seem negative. Good music is good music, even if it's not always my favorite. Peace and joy my brothers and sisters.

I like Jack White.  Whether or not I like a particular song, he/Raconteurs always make me stop and check who it is.  Of course, that is IMHO.

OK, Paps! I understand the words "shitty music" falls into your "no-class" category!

Jack started out as a nice guy,

meanwhile he turned into an arrogant red-carpet loving asshole!

So disappointing!

The song...? Boring and not worth discussing why it is!

OVERRATED - the Jack White industry!

I understand that although she shared her bonnet with him, Florence Nightingale had a deeper voice than our Jack.

Jack continues to keep me interested with his music ... transforming, changing but, yes, always very intriguing. I loved the White Stripes and Raconteurs as well.

@ Wonder Lizzy

Maybe because "Hanging around" of the STRANGLERS is one of my all-time favourites? Does that count for a reason?

Of course I hang around - simply because RP is the best radio-option, possibly the best music-option, "Thin Wonder Lizzy".

@ westslope

OK, Paps - but tell me, what exactly you're complaining about, before you take your belt. What language is it - seriously!! - I have to watch out for?

Is it the word "shit*y" (see how quick I am able to learn?) that you despise? For me "global-warming", "war-on-Iran", "investment-banksters",  "embargo-on-Cuba" and "Pink Floyd" are bad words.

Class...? Trust me - I'm full of it!

" On And On And On" The sun and the moon never change
They just rearrange, but not in the new day
Gold exchanges for silver
And a light on the river gets carried away On and on, on and on
On and on, on and on I lift up my head and I wonder
Just who it is calming, calming my mood now
I trip on my way and I blunder
My head falling under a blanket of shame On and on, on and on
On and on, on and on High, alone may I go
But God only knows just where I am going
High, alone may I go
But God only knows just where I am going The people around me won't let me
Become what I need to, they want me the same
I look at myself and I want to
Just cover my eyes and give myself a new name
The stones in the sky never worry
They don't have to hurry, they move in their own way
But I have to choose what to do
How to act, what to think, how to talk, what to say On and on, on and on
On and on, on and on On and on, on and on
On and on, on and on
On and on, on and on
On and on, on and on

and....? Is that especially lyrical? I find it to be rather dull and "nothing-saying".

I have tickets for his upcoming show in Atlanta. Can't wait! I agree with the suggestion for Hypocritical Kiss, which is one of my fav tracks from Blunderbuss.

Edit. I see this ground's been covered. I get confused cause Bill reruns so many canned playlists.

Totally confused by the Jack White flames. This guys is always interesting at worst and a great listen when full on. I wish we could see more Racontuers.

Hmm. I'm going to disagree. I'm not a huge Jack White fan—too much of the White Stripes output is unlistenable—, but I'm continually impressed with his ability to absorb a vast range of musical influences and turn them into something original. He's compared to a lot of other artists because you can hear their influences in his work. His groundbreaking work with The Raconteurs and this album would seem to indicate a mature artist who is in the process of turning the page.
