Just changed my rating from 9 to 10.  Don't know what I was thinking before.

According to history books, there was quite a bit of hype when these guys played live.

It looks like security was also extra tight, as each band member had his own personally armed cop!!

How about the fact that almost 2900 people have paused to rate this song?  That I find impressive.

A beautiful segue from Porcupine Tree's Collapse The Light - nicely done, Bill!

An absolutely unbelievable song. It took "pop" music to a whole new level and still sounds great today.

Interestingly enough, believe it was the first song recorded for Pepper (after Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane were offered up for singles).

Hard for me to say there is one best song (Eleanor Rigby is way up there), but this is certainly in top ten and a solid 10 here on RP

erm...well...The 4000 holes fanzine says, "since 1989" so maybe they are fans of other groups besides Blackburn Rovers FC?

Talking of absurd holes, there's a Blackburn FC fanzine called '4000 holes'. I just thought you'd be interested to know that :o)

Blackburn not having any notable claims to fame that I know of, this song likely put it on the map. Maybe the Lancashire Tourist Board could set up a Blackburn holes theme park to attract Beatlephiles from across the world...

As for the song and the album, it brings back seriously embarrassing childhood memories (see below) and is excruciatingly cringemaking (shudder).

Sound like nothing else even 45 years later and still so beautiful and moving.

Ooh, I really don't think so - my Dad's chi-chi parties were definitely for his straight-laced middle-class mates, so no blow, Joe. They might have had some Lebanese dates on the buffet, though.

This album always makes me cringe because of these 'personal issues' (shudder)

There are more important things to spend your time "worrying" about.  Everyone doesn't have the same tastes - get over it.  The world would be pretty dull if everyone liked the same things.  Personally, I have always liked this song, but I don't expect everyone else to.

Agreed, my old English Prof at the U of G promulgated the notion that this was certainly the finest contemporary song in the English Language - had to be contemporary, he was very fond of Beowolf.
