The Great RP YouTube Challenge

Here's how it works:

  1. Produce an original video, of any length, that features or promotes Radio Paradise. At some point in the video, our web address (radioparadise.com) should be displayed for at least 5 seconds. Please don't include any profanity, sexual content, or anything that you wouldn't want to show your kids or your mom. Other than that, anything goes.
  2. Upload your video to YouTube and/or any other video sharing site. Be sure to tag it with "Radio Paradise".
  3. Promote your video any way you can, because the first video to reach 1,000,000 combined views (on any combination of sites) wins $1000.

If you think a million views is an impossible goal, take a good look at some of the stuff on YouTube that's received many times that many views. If those folks can do it, we're sure that at least one of you can. You only have 6 months, so get cracking!

The contest will end on Nov. 1, 2009 at noon PST. At that point, we'll award five RP Swag Bags ($100 worth of goodies of your choice from our Shirts & Stuff Emporium) to the top 5 videos. The $1000 grand prize will be awarded to the first video entry that achieves 1,000,000 combined views before the deadline. You Tube and the other video sites are pretty good at detecting artificial inflation of their statistics, but if we determine that trickery is being employed we reserve the right to disqualify entries.

One warning: videos posted to YouTube and the other video sites are subject to takedown by copyright owners if they include any copyrighted music or images. Sometimes they do it, sometimes they don't — but obviously if your video is taken down it can't win, so it's probably best to avoid any copyright entanglements.

Bill and Rebecca — and the RP studio — will not be available for video shoots. You'd probably need to think outside the "talking radio heads" box to win, anyway :-).

Once a few videos are up, we'll begin tracking them and posting a list of all entries and their current view totals. Watch this space. If we decide to disqualify a video, that will be noted here on this page. If you have any questions or concerns you can email Bill or, better yet, post your question in this forum topic.

Good luck!
