"But the lonely are such delicate things,
The wind from a wasp could blow them,
Into the sea,
With stones on their feet,
Lost to the light and the loving we need..."

I was feeling a little forlorn and then this. My wife is at work late and the night is so long. Ahhhhhh

A little sadness to finish the day. Bittersweet. I think I need to up my meds.

Well, you could always delete and/or edit them: I've done that more than once...

After my dad's sudden death, the Shins were the first group to catch my ear when I started 'to really listen' to music again.

Ths song still has the ability to bring me to a full stop.
My eyes want to well up and I get a lump in my throat.
Music that can tap into your emotions that deeply is doing something right.

When I first heard this song on RP in 2007, it made me stop everything and listen.  I looked up the lyrics, and soon after bought the CD.  This song could have been written by me at that time (if I actually had talent {#Angel}), it was so close to the bone.  I bought all of the Shins CD's and listened to them until I ran them into the ground...But...This song remains a favorite.  It's amazing how music moves you through times in your life...bad and good!!

I´m agree. In my case, Overkill- during some years-

A painful song lyrically... the sweetness of the music belies its bleakness.

My sentiments too. I get a lump in my throat every time I hear this track.

I agree - and it's not even one of my favourites on this wonderful album.

In the sense of being impenetrably cryptic and incomprehensible to all bar the author, yes, the lyrics are poetry. I can't make sense of them even after close study - the words and even individual lines make sense, but together it's a random mish-mash. Luckily, the tune is pretty good, so that makes up for the gnomic message(s) in the lyrics.

I had this CD in the car yesterday and when I got to this song (last one on there), I really took notice. I've had this CD for a while and that's the first time this song stuck with me (after multiple listens). Funny how that happens sometimes...

Interesting lyrics indeed, but I don't get it. I don't hear any sort of coherent message. I confess to not being a great poetry consumer—perhaps someone needs to translate this for me...

One hand on this wily comet,
Take a drink just to give me some weight,
Some uber-man I'd make,
I'm barely a vapor

They shone a chlorine light on,
A host of individual sins,
Let's carve my aging face off,
Fetch us a knife,
Start with my eyes,
Down so the lines,
Form a grimacing smile,

Close your eyes to corral a virtue,
Is this fooling anyone else?
Never worked so long and hard,
To cement a failure,

We can blow on our thumbs and posture,
But the lonely is such delicate things,
The wind from a wasp could blow them,
Into the sea,
With stones on their feet,
Lost to the light and the loving we need,

Still to come,
The worst part and you know it,
There is a numbness,
In your heart and it's growing,

With burnt sage and a forest of bygones,
I click my heels,
Get the devils in line,
A list of things I could lay the blame on,
Might give me a way out,

But with each turn,
It's this front and center,
Like a dart stuck square in your eye,
Every post you can hitch your faith on,
Is a pie in the sky,
Chock full of lies,
A tool we devise,
To make sinking stones fly,

And still to come,
The worst part and you know it,
There is a numbness,
In your heart and it's growing.
