I can't help it - I just LOVE this band! They really are the "other B-52's from the wrong side of the tracks." So much fun - short and sweet and shocking. By the time one of their songs is over, you catch yourself scratching your head and going, "Huh? Gotta listen to that one again, because I think I musta blacked out for a minute..." |

I get a little jumpy whenever I see a bald-headed kid playing a banjo.

I have been out of town for the week and unable to listen to RP. Oh, how I have missed it and missed fun songs such as this. |

I get the feeling that I should investigate this band much further - they seem to me to have a nice combination of great musicianship and quirky sense of humor.

It's interesting how it sounded like earlier Talking Heads (couldn't hear it real well over some loud people in shop.)

Almost certainly the sole example of a used condom on an album cover.
And completely fitting its context.

I saw these guys at a little place in Wilmington, NC called Jacob's Run, just a few days after the first Gulf War broke. (It was the night after Saddam started bombing Israel.)
I was ready for a break from the media BS (and the whole thing in general).
I got my wish.
For a couple of hours, it was like there was no politics in the world, no hatred, no strife (but plenty of turmoil!).
If you've never heard these folks play live, then you've never really heard them.
It could very well be that there is no way to actually "record" them, because what they do is only part of what they are about. When they play a show, you become an integral part of it, and the band becomes merely a catalyst to the event.
One might very well brilliantly record the audio of the event, but that would stop short of actually recording the event. I mean, how the hell can the absolute joy of an audience tossing fried chicken around the room with depraved abandon really be captured (even with video)?
I talked with the band after the show, and they were just the nicest folks I've ever met; absolutely polite and friendly, without a trace of "star quality".
Even if you don't like their records, if you can't have a good time at one of their shows, it's just because you are inherently incapable of having a good time!
I got a great deal that night. I laughed (didn't cry), kissed 4 bucks goodbye, then walked the five blocks back to my crib with my sweetie, and left the TV and radio off 'till the next afternoon.
If you ever get a chance to see SCOTS, don't pass it up!
