I'm not sure if I like this tune or not, but if there was an analogy test for music, this would be a decent true/false question:
True or False—
"Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again" is to Bob Dylan as
"After the Gold Rush" is to Neil Young Please feel free to answer it...

Reminder to myself; never expect RPeeps to backscroll and don't give them the credit of understanding irony ! Neil Young has a beautiful singing voice and is handling Old Black masterly, his song writing is beyond compare and his legacy to the world greater than any God's ! (ooh,,did I mention that I'm a fan?)

Hey Alpine. Yes, I have heard his song from the film Philadelphia. The film also featured a song by Bruce Springsteen, which got an Oscar, I believe. I believe they were both nominated, and I think both songs are good, but Young's was incredible in comparison. At least I think so. I like this song too.
Yes, they both performed that night and both had my hair "standing on end" as Alpine said. Bruce mentioned Neil in his acceptance speech. I think he said he shared the award with Neil or something. I thought it was very classy. |

One of my all time favorite songs ever. Brings me back to my glorious youth and High School days. I can't carry a tune at all, and this song can be sung off key and it still sounds good to me. Neil Young is one of the best singer-songwriters of our time. I never get tired of his work. Thanks RP for making my day!!! |

Well I'm no kiddie. That said, it takes more than great lyrics to make a great song—never mind one that is even listenable. |

Well, I dreamed I saw the knights In armor coming, Saying something about a queen. There were peasants singing and Drummers drumming And the archer split the tree. There was a fanfare blowing To the sun That was floating on the breeze. Look at Mother Nature on the run In the nineteen seventies. Look at Mother Nature on the run In the nineteen seventies. I was lying in a burned out basement With the full moon in my eyes. I was hoping for replacement When the sun burst thru the sky. There was a band playing in my head And I felt like getting high. I was thinking about what a Friend had said I was hoping it was a lie. Thinking about what a Friend had said I was hoping it was a lie. Well, I dreamed I saw the silver Space ships flying In the yellow haze of the sun, There were children crying And colors flying All around the chosen ones. All in a dream, all in a dream The loading had begun. They were flying Mother Nature's Silver seed to a new home in the sun. Flying Mother Nature's Silver seed to a new home. |

I don't actually remember seeing any actual cocaine - (perhaps they airbrushed it out as krich58 suggested.) However - it is clear that Neil is flying sky-high on something besides life. Nevertheless - a great performance. That one and this one. |

I heard about that too, and I heard they airbrushed it out of the reels. Urban legend? — ION, I always say don't cover a tune unless you do it differently than the original. In that light, Michael Hedge's version of this tune with Michael Manring on bass is astounding... |
