I saw Stevie on TV last sunday performing on Glastonbury 2010. That brought me to digging in my collection and I found the superb Innervisions album. It raised me to higher grounds!

I like their cover of this tune; if nothing else, The Peppers were never secretive about proclaiming who their influences were.  I prefer this version, however.

Clavinet and synth.  Multiracking and echoes.
Very cool dissection of Superstition (from the same album/sessions) clavinet parts which is quite similar in it's funky syncopation.

Stevie was something else.  A very young talent at a very early age who showed a lot of lyrical and musical sophistication.
