Richard Nixon. Now, go back and listen to Mistra Know-it-all, along with You Haven't Done Nothin', also about Tricky Dick, and it all makes sense. |

Can anyone translate what that man is shouting at the opening of this song? I've always wondered about that.

I was living and partying with black folks back in the day when this album came out. They knew who he was singing about (as I mentioned in a previous post, one "Mistra Know-it-all") and they knew that he was saying "Chevrolet" NOT "chevere".
(And for those of you who insist that he is singing in real Spanish, how do you explain "...Iran, Iraq..." in the same phrase? Or isn't that what he is singing? I suppose there are some real Spanish words that sound like "Iran, Iraq"?)
As has been noted by another black entertainer, "You white folks got such tight asses!"
Dude, this is so racist. Switch the colors around contend that another "white entertainer" commented on "all you black folks" and imagine the anger it would generate... I realize that you'll never cop to this, but that doesn't mean it doesn't deserve calling out. Stop ruining our enjoyment of this great song. |

You don't have to like Stevie's music to realize he is one of the heavy hitters in R & B and R&R.He has had a long and distinguished career as a singer-songwriter. The mans got it, a gift that sets him and his music apart from the maddening noise of the shear mass of wannabe's. |

Goes along with the song's theme, "don't you worry 'bout a thing." The character Stevie is playing in the skit at the beginning is a show-off and a little bit of a huckster, so I wonder if he's trying to say "chévere'" but it's coming out as "Chevrolet" because his "very, very fluent Spanish" really isn't as fluent as the character wants us to think it is. Whatever he's saying, it's a great song and 'todo 'sta bien, chévere'! |
