Just saw them play at the Arts Centre on September 27. At the Arts Centre everyone usually sits and listens. That night the place stood up for the whole show. Before and after the intermission. Band was great and Gord's voice was in find shape and his showmanship can not be questioned. Have to see these guys live to appreciate his voice and the band's musicianship. My ears rang for three days. It was a night of blistering, screaming rock and roll. Fully and completely.

Gord Downie is one of the most incredible contemporary poets/lyricist around IMO. Even if his voice isn't perfect... you should see them live.

I used to really dig TH, and they're not bad, but most of their tunes sound pretty similar. I do have some fun fuzzy memories attached to them from several years ago—a coffee shop in Amsterdam played them as I was...um...drinking coffee   |

Given that the hip released their 'breakthrough album' one year before Garth released his, I'd say Garth has been trying to sound like a 'country' Gord Downie ever since. That would assume that they sounded even vaguely alike, which I don't think they do. |

Having said that, I just saw them 2 nights ago and they still put on a kick-ass live show.
I origianlly thought the same, but every Hip album since Up To Here has had to grow on me after the first listen. I love what Gord started doing lyrically from Music @ Work up until the last two, In Between Evolution and World Container, which took a simpler turn. Give 'em all another listen, I promise you you'll hear lots of stuff to love. |
