"Automatic For The People" was named after the slogan for a soul food restaurant in Athens, Georgia...

For me, this is one of those songs - amazing musicianship, excellent arrangement, poetic lyric and some soulful and believable vocals.

I heard the first few notes of the intro and knew I liked the song, but couldn't place it immediately (got quite a lot of music floating around in my brain lately!)  I agree - Automatic For The People is a great CD.

Yup.  I don't usually expect that on the last track of a CD, but there ya go.

That accordion in the background saves this one! One of the few post late 80s REM songs that are decent. I will give it a 6.

I don't know what it is about this song. I feel like it is summarizing my entire life up until this point. I've always loved it, I still love it.

Some of the last of the best from REM, who were in a class by themselves.
