Clifford/tillbrook were (are) outstanding pop  song writing duo.  Clever, witty catchy, memorable but not tiresome.  Even after all these years.

8/10

I'll never forget the morning in 1989 when I woke up in a rented room in Leuven, Belgium to the sounds of Pulling Mussels from a Shell being played live by a band that sounded exactly like Squeeze. I looked out the window and there in the Oude Markt was a huge crowd of people watching what was, in fact, Squeeze. Turned out there was a music festival that day, so I spent the day at my excellent window vantage point, grooving on the line-up, which also included the Average White Band, and drinking warm Belgian beer. Magical.

What a fabulous story!

I seem to have a pre-MTV video memory of this song (Video Jukebox, perhaps?) Anyway, great song then; great song now!

Certainly one of the most upbeat songs of the 80's. It never gets any broadcast radio play anymore, either. Thanks.

It's odd how nicely Difford and Tilbrook's voices harmonize even though neither voice on its own is anything special, to put it mildly.  Nice song, then and now.

Also, "Argybargy" is one of the better album titles ever.

It's like Elvis Costello is pulling mussels from a shell.
Love that cover artwork, thats kinda how I feel after six pints.

This one is a great example of what was good about Squeeze.

These guys wrote some great melodies; this is a fine example.  Great guitar solo in this one as well.

Why this doesn't lead into Rockpile's Play That Fast Thing (One More Time) is beyond me.

I share your opinion of the Black Coffee song.     I like their melodies so much that I just try to ignore their sometimes annoying lyrics.

Good to hear some early 80s Squeeze again...always liked them back then.  However, if I ever hear "Tempted by the Fruit of Another" again, it'll be too soon. Their most overplayed tune...{#Puke}

Saw 'em at Ravinia in the north Chicago burbs a few weeks ago.  Aimee Mann opened for them.  Great show.

Thanks for the great news! Last I'd heard, they had broken up and Tilbrook had made a couple of solo albums that to me showed he's mediocre and not up to genius level without Difford and the band... Looking so forward to any new CD's they cut, every one of their later CD's has been consistently good and delicious. Squeeze are one of my all time favorite bands.

Difford & Tillbrook break into alternative heavy rotation along with Split Enz - the coming out party for down under New Wave such as it was. Very much a welcome breath of fresh air for those in need of a Lennon/McCartney-esque harmony fix mixed with a wry sense of tongue-in-cheek and double entendre.

Of course EssexTex is right. The Enz were from New Zealand, and Squeeze from the UK. Interesting the Lennon/McCartney analogy. I always thought that if the Three Remaining Beatles--this is while George was still alive--were actually motivated to play something live, they could have used either Glenn Tillbrook or Neil Finn and not lost much. Both are intelligent, smart, and gifted songwriters and accomplished singers and guitarists. Mighta been something neat.
