"Two-two chords". Yep, just about sums up Wilco's oeuvre. This is marginally less dull than their usual output, but that's not saying much. A nailed-on Ho-Hum from the Nottingham jury {#Sleep}. Wilco and out.

Wilco - "Jesus Etc." Live:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVC1k9x2Ryw

"This song, from their "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" album, is a favorite of mine and this version is just about as good as it gets. I discovered Wilco and after playing it every day for a year on my iPod, in my car and at work I bought all their previous albums beginning with Summer Teeth and working backwards. Sky Blue Sky, How to Fight Lonelinesscame out and I bought that too."

Jesus, don't cry
You can rely on me, honey
You can combine anything you want
I'll stick around
You were right about the stars
Each one is a setting sun

Tall buildings shake
Voices escape singing sad sad songs
tuned to chords
Strung down your cheeks
Bitter melodies turning your orbit around

Don't cry
You can rely on me honey
You can come by any time you want
I'll be around
You were right about the stars
Each one is a setting sun

Tall buildings shake
Voices escape singing sad sad songs
tuned to chords
Strung down your cheeks
Bitter melodies turning your orbit around

Voices whine
Skyscrapers are scraping together
Your voice is smoking
Last cigarettes are all you can get
Turning your orbit around

I was about to rip on you, but then I saw your Neil Young ratings.  You're ok in my book, CatFitz, even if you didn't like this Wilco song.

I saw this show (at Neil Young's annual Bridge School Concert). Great stuff.  Tweedy had appeared earlier in the day, and Jones mentioned that she and her bad loved Wilco...hope this one will be released as part of the Bridge School Concerts series someday.

I just tuned in cause I got caught listening to Joni Mitchell on KCRW. I toggle between KCRW and RP occasionally, for all Joni Mitchell situations namely.

Question: Does Joni Mitchell qualify as "progressive experimental music" ? Cause I can't seem to find anything else to describe her brand of coincidental and headache-inducing riffing.

There's one Joni song on RP that I like, something about hissing lawns or something, and it gets a terrible rating. Nothing to do with what you're talking about but hey so what.

Joni Mitchell? I call it dementia folk.

I love this song and indeed, the entire album. I've tried to enjoy other Wilco albums, and none of them have the impact of YHF.

Love this song and this album.  It even has a scientific attitude when it says each star is a setting sun.  That can probably have all sorts of meanings to different people: we're not alone (in the universe and maybe even on a more personal level).

I like the live version of this song, but the studio version is sooooo much better in my mind.

Sorry to disagree.

Amazing album and great song. But it's funny... whenever a Wilco song comes on RP, my first thought is "Oh, a classic Wings song. Wait, that's Jeff Tweedy."

WTF! Tune those violins!! {#Stop}

Nah. That's so conformist. What makes this record so great is the chances they take by stepping out of the box.

Tuning is overrated. If it sounds good - it's in tune enough for me.

PS I once had a bandmate tell me that I was playing a 'wrong' note in a guitar solo. I argued that I didn't care if it was technically 'wrong' (IE: not in the same key as the song) or not. It sounded great anyway. The recording engineer at the studio we were in agreed.

While I still don't believe YHF is the classic album that it has been proclaimed to be, this is a great song.
