I can't listen to this without thinking of that scene from Beetlejuice! {#Bounce}  Not apologizing for loving this song. Sometimes, out of the blue, I'll yell, "Daaaaay-OH!" just for the shock value. And then, of course, I have to finish the song, with the proper dance-moves to accompany it...

Did you guys in the US get the stop motion short to the Stan Freeburg version with the Dylan Rabbit as the bongo player and a sort of Speedy Gonzales mouse as the TOO LOUD singer?

Still cracks me up hearing this song 'cause that is what I see - like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kyn4KJzbL3c

Though the original was in clay-mation and a lot older than that as those Blue Peter presenters are long after I went to work.

This is one of those songs you only need 0.7 seconds intro of, to be able to remember the whole song. Once in a while, I like it! This was such a time {#Good-vibes}

Belafonte was 1956, Gotye 2006, so you have some space/time continuum issues there.

And the grooves are entirely different from each other.

Other than that, yer right on the mark.

So you're saying it's exactly nothing alike! {#Stupid}

A quaint little piece of music history, nice in its time, but hardly worth listening to repeatedly.

I can't remember ever laughing harder than I did the first time I saw the dining room scene in Beetlejuice. It's not the funniest movie ever, but that just may be the funniest scene ever.

This song and "Jamaica, Farewell" will always remind me of my elementary school (P.S. #23) music teacher who loved Calypso and would have us sing the songs, teaching us harmonies and such.  I don't know if that's good or bad, but for some reason, I still like this song.

Not many songs will make me turn off RP, but this one did. OTOH, it motivated me to register and complain about it...

That would be wrong. Jamie Coles is the song's author. Arkin and two others later did what we would now call a mash-up, and they are given credit for that creation. But that's not this song.
