I had to bump this one up from an 8 to a 9.  I grew up on jazz in the 60's, ended up playing trumpet in band in high school, including our kickin' jazz band.  My best friend was our lead tenor sax player and he turned me on to Eddie.  Then Swiss Movement came our with Les McCann, which is still my sentimental favorite jazz LP of all time.  After high school, my sax playing buddy & I started a jazz combo, playing tunes like Cold Duck Time from Swiss Movement.

We were both just knocked out by Swiss Movement.  Then one day I couldn't find my LP in my collection.  I looked forever and it was just gone. Flash forward about 3 years and I was best man in my buddies wedding.  I stayed with him in his apartment the night before the wedding.  He was taking a shower and I was flipping through his excellent jazz LP collection and lo and behold - there was my copy of Swiss Movement!  The dude ripped it off!  But being his best friend, I forgave him on the spot, figuring he just loved it so much that he couldn't help himself.

I stole it right back, stashing it in my car while he was in the shower.  He never said a thing.  He knew.

Rock on, Eddie....

I tried uploading SET US FREE off of Second Movement to no avail. It's my favorite tune on the album. Great stuff...

I put down the headphones, left my office, walked down the hall to talk to a guy, came back, and it's STILL playing!  Is the record stuck?

Love the variety, especially the bop/jazz/scat stuff.

At least it's music made by humans and not some stupid machine that does all the work (ie Thievery Corporation).

There are many things that burn me about jazz, the main one being: why do jazz numbers go on so blasted long? I've not timed this effort but it's got to have been at it for a good 6 minutes already, and it shows no sign of ending. As Joe Strummer said, "f*ckin' long, innit?".
