You would be wrong on that count though. There are similarities to Mess though, still a great song mind... |

Same song 10 years later. Seriously - listen to Mess. Same bass line. Same western motif. Same orchestration build. Same extended notes on the chorus. Solid song, but if anyone ever had a claim for "subconscious copyright infringement" it would be Mr. Folds.
BTW - This station needs more BFF

For me, it needs a walking base line; other than that I agree with the Calexico parallels - a good thing.

A lot of times I'll identify a song by a single bridge or riff. In this bit, there's a long quiet bridge, and at the end of it the lead guitarist does a full slide (bwwwoawwww) about 2/3rds of the way through - it just puts a wonderful touch on the tone of the piece. Luvvit!

great direction! I'm hearing a little more surf guitar Calexico and a little less like an electronic Radiohead sound. I'm putting it on my buy list.

This is the first time hearing any of their new material. I've been a fan of their past albums. This is sounding good to me.

There are a lot of pieces of this that I like, but the tortured vocals just aren't doing it for me, and the more I hear it the more they bug me. I think I'll average out the good and bad and call it a 6 for now.

This is a goodie, right enough, unlike some of the other tracks from this disc which have been played which haven't exactly hit the spot.
