No it's nothing of the sort.

He gave the best concert I ever saw - almost 20 years ago in Lisbon, Portugal in a very old round theater.  He was excellent all night and closed with two Portugese folk songs as encores.  I can still hear the wooden chairs being pounded to the beat by 10,000 screaming Portugese fans.  Epic..

The only reason I didn't rate this a 1 is that it isn't Dengue Fever.

Heard Byrne in concert, small venue (Gainesville), when he was touring in support of Rei Momo...simply blew the place away...of course, he had the help of some *amazing* Brazilian instrumentalists and vocalists.

I'm on the love side.  This guy is so interesting that I just like hearing his voice, even when the songs are, admittedly, a little grating.  And a little hooting verging on a yodel?  Well, it's never dull!

I'm one of the only weirdos in the world that LOVES this CD, from beginning to end.  Byrne is flat out having fun on this album.  He's got a great band, gets to sing his brains out about random shit (sex changes, politics, religion, hanging out in a mall) - never getting too heavy or poetic - and every song has a killer hook or bridge.  After this album, Byrne started taking himself way too seriously, but this album is a party for me.

Same here, this is my favourite Byrne album. It's brilliant. Gotta say that this is the one song on the CD that I usually skip, though.

David Byrne and Talking Heads are pretty divisive amongst the RP audience, with 'hate' and 'love' camps. That could apply to many artists played on here, but Bill & Becky plainly have a big thing going for Byrne so quite a lot of his music gets airplay, which fuels the division. Sadly, I'm in the 'hate' camp - Byrne's voice just gets right on my tits, and I can't rationally explain why. As soon as I hear it I can't reach for the off/mute button fast enough. The guy's a brilliant songwriter right enough and I can see why he's got a loyal following, but as with Dylan and Young, some folk just really react viscerally to his voice.
