The passage of time is intractable...  today is a day in the life, just as it was the day this song came out...

this song laments the existential absurdity of it all...

I'm pretty tired of almost all of the Beatles output...but I have a soft place in my heart for this song. Would have liked the tune better without the McCartney middle section...but I suppose it does lend a 'reality' to the otherwise dreamy contrast of the song.

One more mystical text of Beatles:

He blew his mind out in a car
He didn't notice that the lights had changed

A crowd of people stood and stared

A friend this weekend said, "Cut the Beatles, and they probably bleed green blood." Simply not of this planet.

Okay, I just have to say it - a paltry 10 rating does not do this song justice. But, if it's the best I can do.... There it is.

Is there anyway to give this song a 15? This may just be the greatest song ever crafted.

Jeff Beck and Tal Wilkenfeld. Ottawa Bluesfest, 2009

Jeff Beck - "A Day In The Life" (The Beatles Cover) - 25th Anniversary The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Concert. October 30. Madison Square Garden

"Tal Wilkenfeld, the 21 years old, amazing bass guitarist from Australia, does some beautiful work on this Beck cover of the Beatles classic !! Very nice ! "

"In 2008, Tal Wilkenfeld was voted "The Year's Most Exciting New Player" in a Bass Player Magazine reader's choice poll. She has impressed critics and fans alike with musical achievements usually reserved for players with relatively long established careers. Wilkenfeld became a professional bassist after only three years on the instrument. "

"In Jeff's playing I can enjoy and feel music as something given from the universe. All other Speedy Gonzales guitar players are like dust in the wind compared to his expression. For me, he is music itself.
My deepest respect and admiration. "

There's little cheesier than a bunch of pissed middle-aged middle-class men 'bonding' over a sing-song. I shudder to remember it. The horror, the horror...
