It was still daylight and close to the shore. Best odds for a good rescue.

Oh, my. I was thinking flooding might have been the culprit, but that just looks like simple structural failure. It's an old bridge, not really up to interstate standards. Regular inspections (?) should have prevented that.

Called son, but they turn off the phone after they put the kids to bed. I'm pretty sure they're OK, because they would have been on the island tonight.

That's on #1 Son's route from the Anacortes ferry to Seattle or Portland. There are a couple of alternate crossings, but they're both two lane and involve local city streets. I-5 traffic will probably clog both of them.

I hope there weren't any cars involved, but that's too much to hope for. Prayers for those who might have been crossing.

Pictures of folks sitting on their cars which are in the water.

HAHA! Yeah, maybe! My mom was a JOHN BIRCHER if you can believe it! She thought there was a commie under every rock. It rubbed off on my older suister who now thinks theres a commie under every rock including Obama. Weird how that works huh? My physician dad was more moderate GOP and even voted for Obama last election. I took after him. A solid belief in science and common sense. But I have seen how far right the GOP has become and it is getting scary. Even Reagan would not be welcome in today's GOP. THAT is off the charts conservatism also known as Fascism.
My sister and I now trade emails every day about politics for the past year. She is probably the most RW Christian person I've ever known. But with my daily pounding her with the facts and guilt of her hatred she is slightly softening I think. It will probably take another 5 years to convert her. lol.

but what do you do for a living? kids? marbles? over or under?

Wow, you're starting to sound as hyperbolically brainwashed and sick as my RW nutjob sister. For the love of god, Obama is a moderate conservative, he's not even a progressive.

I'm not RW or LW.I'm an honest, decent human being with morals and character who observes things, analyzes them and comes to a conclusion from there.

No further discussion between us is necessary.

As a baby boomer,I know there will be retroactive laws passed to eliminate as many of us as possible. When you can't even pass a budget, increase our National debt by a factor of about a gazillion, your intentions are pretty clear.

I am so pissed off at myself for voting for this animal and believing his lies,I suppose I'm just venting.Oh well. The truth hurts.

So change of subject but I'm confused about profiling. You're saying it's a good thing? Walks like a duck/quacks like a duck, that sort of thing? Because isn't the kerfuffle at the IRS all about them profiling applicants for 501c4 status?

I believe that the tax agency flap is about exclusive targeting of certain groups that openly disagree with the politics of the party in power. I would agree to a certain extent that it is a form of profiling, but based upon exploiting open non hidden positions. Different from profiling phyical beings who might pose a physical threat to other human beings acting covertly.

Profiling to determine covert activities has a legitimate place. You want to fly on El Al ? You will be profiled before boarding.

Everyone who has a FB account is being profiled and targeted by Madison Avenue, not to mention a host of other organizations. I would offer that what happened at our tax agency is profiling in only the broadest sense of the word. Vastly different from the pursuit of detecting criminal activities and intentions.
