That's not a gig, that's a time machine.

So, how was it?

Going to see a reunited Afghan Whigs in Atlanta this Saturday night.

Does it say something about my age that the last three concerts I've been to (after Saturday night) will all be shows by reunited 90's bands? Toad the Wet Sprocket last summer, Ben Folds Five last month, and Afghan Whigs this weekend.

Pete Gabriel outside at Jones Beach Sunday...weather looks like it may cooperate and be a beautiful evening.

Mixed feelings about last night's show. I felt the band never really got into a groove, even during the So performance. And wow, it was tough at times looking out over the "aging" audience - not to mention Pete, ha! - who preferred to sit through the show. So was the big new album when I was in college, so this show was very nostalgic...and seeing the aging masses was a bit...depressing in some way. I guess a certain part of you still thinks of yourself as 20 years old.

I felt the sound wasnt so great (we had good seats)...boomy bass and highs were bit sheer...didnt sound very "musical". His voice still sounds great and there were many good moments, but I certainly didn't walk back to the car at the end of the night feeling spent, in that good way.

Except for some interesting lighting, this was a pretty low tech event, including a stripped down acoustic set which opened the show, with the house lights up despite numerous shouts from the audience to put them down (pete obviously wanted them on). He started with a new song, which apparently he just penned lyrics too (in previous shows this was an instrumental). Pulled some interesting tunes from his library, which i could tell didnt thrill some of the soccer moms who showed up. Glad I went and would recommend to other fans, but I was expecting more compared to the stellar performance I saw from Pete last time at this same venue (wow, just realizing that was back in 2003!)

Acoustic

1. OBUT
2. Come Talk to Me
3. Shock the Monkey
4. Family Snapshot - into electric with house lights now down

Electric

5. Digging in the Dirt
6. Secret World
7. The Family and the Fishing Net
8. No Self Control
9. Solsbury Hill
10. Washing of the Water

So

11. Red Rain
12. Sledgehammer
13. Don’t Give Up
14. That Voice Again
15. Mercy Street
(sung lying down, center stage)
16. Big Time
17. We Do What We’re Told (Milgram’s 37)
18. This Is the Picture (Excellent Birds)
19. In Your Eyes

Encore :

20. The Tower That Ate People
21. Biko

The two back up singers, a Jenni Abrahmason and some other female singer, did a brief 4 song opening set...Jenni has a very interesting, Kate Bush like voice.
